Owning a property in Spain can and should be an enjoyable experience and not a headache which it can easily become. Small problems and issues you may have with your apartment on Vera Playa which could easily overcome if you lived there and spoke Spanish become issues out of your control. Imagine that the property next door has a broken water pipe flooding that property and yours. Firstly how are you going to even know about it? Do you have friends on the same urbanisation that will inform you? And then what do you do? Get in touch with your neighbour who may not speak English and get his insurance company details? The insurance company involved will want to send someone to access the damage and then co-ordinate repairs and replacements of damaged property. Who will be there to let them in and who will be there to take delivery of new belongings and make good the flood damage? As you may well know from experience you thought you had arranged a time and place to meet a local tradesman or agent and you will not be surprised when they don't show up. I have personally waited in a whole day expecting plumber to turn up only to find when I contacted him he had forgotten or taken another job and my situation was not important. From experience when we first owned a holiday apartment here in Spain we paid a local property management an annual fee to hold the keys and make regular inspection, which was just as well as we were flooded twice.
